I feel the village centre is currently without three crucial trades
Greengrocers
Newsagents
Quality Off Liscence
I'd like to hear oppinions from others as to what they believe is missing.
I do not believe it is acceptable to roll over and simply allow the supermarkets to take it all; quality, professional, speciallist retaillers have a place in the 21st century. Sextons is busy and the supermarkets sell all their staple products!

Lets hope the new units opening will offer at least one of the trades you mention, however if the rents are not realistic we may not see it happen.

Fishmongers would be great, Somerfield selection is poor. Not too bothered about a newsagents.

When we were doing the market research for the sweet shop we had a question about news agents cos we weren't sure if that was going to be an option. The feedback was that were so many outlets on the outskirts of the village in all directions now doing newspapers and Somerfield too that they would be reluctant to go into the village for news. I think that modern news agents sell a bit of everything i.e cards, drinks, crisps, stationery and sweets similar to Somerfield and other specialist shops and it could be a bit of an overkill.
I'd love to see a fish monger and green grocer (like the one in Goose Green in Altrincham - how about shop number 2 Sara!! mega deli eh eh!) and a book shop (also supplying text books to the High School - big business!) - a Jewellers would change the dynamics of the village too.
It would be good to have a list of the types of businesses in Hale as you rearly see an empty unit and those that do come free are snapped up really quickly despite similar rents - they have a real mixed bag and it seems to work! - hardware, high end wine shop, trendy health food shop, boutiques, menswear, wedding dresses etc
Does anyobe know somebody with business in Hale who could give us some insights?

I agree, I think in a small community like Lymm shops need to diversify... would love to see a combined fishmonger/green grocery/health food shop, how about a shop selling books/music/dvds & magazines?
how could we entice entrepreneurs to open businesses like these? Heatley Mere put up a board announcing what the locals had asked for when polled. not enough new traders think through what is required & seem to do little or no research, we've seen several shops open on a whim that don't last 5 minutes. WBC should not allow any more fast food outlets, but it seems they already have on Pepper street. who would buy an apartment over a take away, anyway?
for the village to thrive, we need more good reasons for people to visit - a collection of desirable shops would benefit us all.

Agreed, now there is an item for the next meeting agenda, Lymm Traders request the Parish council to set up an agreement to prevent anymore of the following trades opening in the village - Offices - Estate Agents, Solicitors, Banks, Building Societies Food outlets - Takeaways, Restaurants including Pubs and Bars Hairdressers, Beauty Salons etc Dentists and Physio, health related. We have more than our fair share of the above taking up prime retail premises, we obviously need all of the above in the village, just not in the numbers we have them. What are your thoughts everybody?

Absolutely! if it were possible to prohibit any more of the above opening that would only leave retail. Even though some units may stay empty for longer if such prohibitions were in force it may not be a bad thing, as landlords would have to reconsider the rent to attract retailers.
