Ok folks, lets have some ideas. I've come up with the Santa Float, what can you come up with?

Hilary made a suggestion that we all had a simple give away/sample/tasting for customers i.e mince pies, nibbles, mulled wine, ginger (chocolate covered of course) and we all knew what each other was doing in order to direct people.
One of those small steet organs would help to give a great atmosphere (perhaps one that sells its own CD's of the music to it could fund itself - does anybody know of someone?

I've spread the word to my customers about the late night opening & they think it's a brilliant idea, but then they were already here during the day shopping locally....plus although Lymm Life did a superb job advertising it, again, as I've said before, you'd have to be using local businesses already to pick one up. I feel we can only 'preach to the converted' with the means we have at the moment. I know it's short notice as it was a snap desicion this year, but is there any way we can get the mesage across to all those busy working people who turn out for Dickensian Day, carol singing etc. ( or maybe not even those) but who NEVER shop in the village but who might if they knew about the convenience of late night opening & would enjoy making a night of it? I'm sure there are some folk who use the village only to eat out & drink but are'nt around when shops are open - I'm certain pubs & restaurants will enjoy a fallout of our customers patronising them after shopping on a Thursday -have we approached them about displaying posters/ handing out leaflets? Can we hang a banner in the village centre to grab the attention of commuters? posters on lamposts in residential areas? schools? Leisure Centre? Rugby club panto? evening/exercise classes? golf club? an ideal scenario would be door to door leaflet dropping, but probably too late for that this year. any other suggestions?

A quick and free way is to post on various forums, Lymm.net, Warrington worldwide, manchester forum. I will start doing that now. Hopefully the window posters will be helping, people walking out to pubs, restaurants after the shops have closed, but I agree a leaflet drop with offers and details of special christmas lines would have helped, but yes, I think it's too late now, but we will be more organised next year!

I think it needs to be advertised in the surrounding villages as well as in Lymm. Also Manchester, Altrincham, Warrington etc. Also how about swapping ideas with other villages doing similar things? Like here for example: http://www.garstang.net/victorian_christmas_festival.htmlIt can only help - hang on... what about creating www.villageevents.net... where all UK villages advertise what events they put on. Scrap that, anyway no harm in taking ideas from other places, what do they do in the USA for example?
